The first concert I attended after landing in Istanbul was Napalm Death. They played at Kemancı Rock Bar which is located in the more hip Beyoglu neighborhood of the city. So, I had been trying to find a way to get a ticket before I arrived in Istanbul, but I am glad I was never successful because I met a girl that lives in Ankara, Turkey and she had a plus one! The show was very enjoyable although it was PACKED. There were so many Turkish long-haired metal heads wearing black t-shirts of a metal looking band. I never knew this, but Istanbul is the third most populated city in the world (#1 is Mumbai, India and #2 is Karachi, Pakistan) so pretty much every “scene” here is thriving. Before Napalm Death went on, the crowd was doing various chants to induce performance including one that seemed like it was in the tune of “When the Saints Go Marching In.”
