In Sarajevo, I have managed to eat a lot of wrapped food. I checked out the other Mexican restaurant and I ordered a chimichanga. It was okay tasting, but kind of similar to my burrito at Hacienda. And it wasn’t deep fried, it was just pan grilled or something. They filled it with grilled peppers like the Hacienda as well, instead of the regular way of beans and rice that I was hoping for.

My other wrapped food includes a dessert crepe and a sort of vegetable wrap that had more sauce than actual stuff inside the wrap.

I enjoyed my second stuffed eggplant in less than a week, this time in Sarajevo at cute little restaurant in the center of town, Dveri. The presentation of this one was much better than my Albanian stuffed eggplant, the ingredients a little different though. Quite tasty! Had it with some more tomato soup and cornbread as well.

At last, we are in Sarajevo. This nice guy on the bus helped us with getting around town in the first hour, showed us to the tram. He was really nice and cute, I almost asked for his phone number. Ha. So I have been updating this blog all day with backlogged posts, and now I bring you to the present day with me in Sarajevo. I haven’t taken too many pictures yet… But yeah there are a lot of graveyards here. We are staying at this chill hostel with our own room with a lock. They have a vegetarian restaurant here with like a daily menu where you eat pretty well for 5 euros, or 3 euros in the last hour (”happy hour”). An awesome deal! The picture below is from that restaurant, Vegehana. Right now I am at this Mexican cantina called Hacienda. Me and Rhea shared some nachos and a burrito. It was good, but not like Californian Mexican food though. The dudes working the bar here really seem to like me, I just got some free blueberry juice right now and they keep smiling at me.

So yeah, we were only in Herceg Novi for a few hours before catching the overnight bus to Sarajevo. We ate some more pizza. We used internet at an internet cafe. We walked around in the rain. It’s pretty here, I liked it better than Ulcinj but couldn’t take many pictures.

I spent most of my birthday on a bus. From Bar, we rode to Budva. Had this nice little meal before getting on another bus to Herceg Novi. The cheese salad had so much cheese. The soup and corn bread was delicious. I don’t think this is exactly Montenegran cuisine though.

I didn’t have too much Albanian food when I was in Tirana. One night I had this amazing meal that I didn’t take a picture of, but it was at a middle eastern restaurant and I got an antipasti type of platter but it had 3 different salads like tabbouleh, fattoush, this other salad with figs and then some falafel and potato croquettes.
But pictured below is this cute Albanian restaurant and some stuffed eggplant. I shared it with my new friend and travel buddy that I met at the Tirana hostel and it was flavored really well. But yeah otherwise, been eating a lot of pizza here – it’s easier to find pizza than traditional food!

My last Greek meal was this yummy salad and some batter-fried red peppers stuffed with feta.

I observed my Athens host Ada make some Spanikopita. Pretty easy: in a pot, stir some spinach (in our case, frozen), with oil, salt and various types of chopped up onions. Let it cook for a while, adding more oil & salt as needed. When it seems like its done, turn it off and add a block of feta cheese and stir up some more. Take a pan, oil it well, and layer some filo dough- basting it with some beaten eggs. Put the spinach mixture in the middle and then add some more filo on top. Add a little bit of milk to your remaining egg mixture. Pour some oil on top of filo and the remaining egg/milk mixture. Bake in oven for like an hour. (Use google for some more precise directions, ha).

So far these are two of my favorite things to eat and I need to learn how to cook them!

I was welcomed to Chios with an amazing homemade meal! Spanakopita, a tomato based soup that had grains made by grandma (no joke) and a cauliflower salad. Dimitra is the best!
